This Past Week's Mis-Statements

Speaker Pelosi:
Explaining that the expiration of the Bush tax cuts will not be a tax increase, but rather the "eliminating a tax decrease that was there."
President Obama:
Calling Representative Alan Grayson "an outstanding member of Congress"--this is the gentleman who has complained that Republicans just want senior citizens "to die quickly" and last week referred to a woman who advises the fed chief as a lady of the streets

The Health Care Bill that just keeps giving---oops, I mean, Taking...

Another reason to question Speaker Pelosi's bill:
We still have a health care czar--well, commissioner--who essentially will run the health care in our country.
Both private insurance companies (just in case you wanted non-government run health insurance--don't worry, there won't be any such animal) and the new government run plan.
This person is magnanimously called the Health Choices Commissioner, and would be appointed by--who else?--the President.
Not by Congress, not by voters....we, the people, would get no say in who this person might be.
The czar's powers?
**To negotiate rates for doctors and hospitals.
**To oversee both government and private health care companies, by establishing coverage and by enforcing these standards
**Can collect whatever data he or she desires
**Collect fines
**Determine the terms of health care policies
**Monitor health care complaints
Do we really want the federal government to have basically unlimited power over our health care?
And, is this constitutional?

Well, so much for Honduras

Honduras, under pressure from the U.S., has re-instated Mr. Zeyala as Honduran President.
Remember the scenario? Mr. Zeyala was ousted from office after trying to force, by nefarious means, to obtain a second term, which is unconstitutional according to Honduran law.
Yet the Obama Administration has continued to call this a "military coup" and, along with Fidel Castro and Hugo Chavez, has pressed for Zeyala's return.

BTW, the Law Library of Congress has refused to back down on its report confirming the legitimacy of the removal of Mr. Zeyala's removal from office, despite the pleading of Senator John Kerry.

PS--I thought we were through with interventionist foreign policy?

I'm pulling for Hoffman

Very leftwing Republican candidate DeDe Scozzafava, running in the New York 23rd District special state congressional elections, has dropped out of the race. She, BTW, is the proud winner of Margaret Sanger award from Planned Parenthood (for her support of abortion) and supporter of stimulus spending.
The Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman (who really is conservative, not just playing conservative) now appears to be leading the race.
The Republican Party and the Democratic Party can both worry about conservative candidates, but the deal is, the voters want fiscally conservative candidates.
To the Republican Party--The voters don't want far-left liberals running. We have enough of those! And no wishy-washy so-called moderates who have no backbone and just want to spend, spend, spend!

To the Democratic Party--ditto.
The voters aren't going to go for crazy rightwing kooks either--but fiscal conservatives who believe in protecting their country and don't believe in big government are not kooks.
These big-wig folks better listen up.

Just for fun, let's look at Cash-for-Clunkers again....for golfcarts!

That's right, trade in your old golf cart for a new electric model.
The federal government will subsidize you up to $5,500. Really! I'm not kidding (though I wish I were)http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748704107204574473724099542430.html

Trick or Treat! It's the New Health Care Bill!

Methinks HB 3962 not a treat.
There's still the "public option".
And higher taxes to support government run health care.
And it still leaves out people.
And it limits access and choice for health care coverage--by expanding Medicaid, poorer folks get stuck on Medicaid--they don't get any other choice.
If you are eligible for your own health care (not Medicaid), you also are very limited in what you can purchase.
A whole slew of taxes will support this government run health care, which taxes everything from employers to health savings accounts to taxes on self-insurance to medical devices, such as grandmother's wheelchair and heart pacemaker to daughter's tampons.
A total of 13 new taxes, if you're counting.
Oh, and if the IRS doesn't like your tax deductions because you had the wrong motivation (mind-reading, anyone?) let us look at this:
Codification of the “Economic Substance Doctrine” (Page 349): Empowers the IRS to disallow a perfectly legal tax deduction or other tax relief merely because the IRS deems that the motive of the taxpayer was not primarily business-related.
And, of course it's expensive.
Speaker Pelosi states that the health care bill is affordable, coming in at 894 billion. Of course, in appealing to Medicare-age seniors, when the Democrats close the so-called "donut hole" in medication coverage, the price tag should go over the 1 trillion mark.
And the claims that the bill will actually save money?
Well, this bill won't go into effect for several years. So the increased taxes, in place even before the new health coverage begins, will offset costs for the first ten years.
Honestly, that's usually not how I run my household budget.

If You Don't Like the Report on Honduras

...you just ask that the report be removed.
Senator John Kerry D-MA and Representative Berman D-Ca have asked that the Law Library of Congress rescind its report on the ouster of the ex-Honduran president Zelaya. The Law Library has stated that the removal of Zelaya from office was legal according to the Honduran constitution, in contrast to President Obama's and Secretary of State Clinton's stance that this was illegal, and they demanded that Zelaya be returned to office.
The Hondurans stuck to their....umm....constitution.

What Constitution? (Oh, that one...)

When asked about the constitutionality of requiring everyone in the United States to buy health insurance (as the current health care reform bill does), Senator Patrick Leahy (D-VT), who also happens to be head of the Senate Judiciary Committee, replied that "nobody questions" Congress' authority to do this.
He also seemed a trifle confused on other constitutional issues.
Did I mention that Senator Leahy is chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee?
Meanwhile, back at the House--of Representatives, that is--Speaker Pelosi (D-CA) protested that the question of mandates (the federal government making everyone buy health insurance) was ridiculous. Her spokesman said that this wasn't a serious question.
So, wondering about the constitutionality of a bill isn't serious? The rule of law is not something to be carefully considered? Knowledge of our constitution isn't requisite for our elected representatives?

Oops, Sunday Fun on Monday

Sorry, I have two big papers due this week!

And Oops on the White House Trying to Control the Media

You may have noticed lots of reports about the White House and Fox News lately.
The White House press secretary Gibbs declared Fox News "not a news agency", stating that this was the opinion of the White House:
while Anita Dunn, White House communications director (one of whose favorite political philosophers is Mao Zedong--no, wait, Ms. Dunn protested that was a mistatement--Mao is just a guy that really got things done--as in murdering 1000's of people--is that what Ms. Dunn is referring to???) , stated Fox News is just "masquerading as news." Even President Obama got onto Fox News as not "real" news.
So, yesterday, it was Fox News' turn to be part of the team interviewing the pay czar, Mr. Feinberg.
(The many different news outfits work in teams, taking turns at the White House).
And the White House decided Fox News couldn't participate in the interviews.
Well, this didn't set so well with the other White House correspondents. They demanded that the White House allow Fox News their turn--or no one would cover the interview.
Good for the press--this is America, after all--and Freedom of the Press is guaranteed by our Constitution.

Ooops on Health Care Reform

Health care reform, AKA Obamacare, has suffered a setback.
(Y'all know my opinion---yeah for us taxpayers!!!)

The not-so-clean White House dealings appeared to have backfired.
First, with health care powers-that-be (including the American Medical Association, the Federation of American Hospitals and the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America) appears to have backfired. Earlier in the year, in April, aides to President Obama and Senator Baucus met with these groups and asked for their help, in what proved to be the launching of a pro-health care reform ad campaign. While the aides apparently didn't ask directly for money, millions of dollars have been asked for and given by these groups for lobbying and advertisements.
And, interestly, the Pharmaceutical group, after donating, was given a pass by the proposed health care reforms so that drug prices would not be decreased by the federal government.

Hmmmmm.....

Meanwhile, back at the ranch---since health insurance companies finally figured out that Obamacare would put them out of business and have fought back with studies showing that the Baucus Bill would raise our health insurance premiums (studies, incidentally, that are supported by other research)---President Obama has decried these results as "bogus" and "deceptive", "smoke and mirrors".
And threatened the health insurance companies with repealing the anti-trust protections that this industry now enjoys. http://www.nytimes.com/2009/10/18/us/politics/18address.html
And then, to top it all off, White House chief of staff Rahm Emmanuel and Senator Harry Reid put together a proposal to increase Medicare payments to doctors by 247 "B" as in billion dollars to gain doctors' support for Obamacare. And this was voted on separately from the Baucus Bill, so as not to run the official cost of health care reform even higher.
Well, despite all these shenanigans, it didn't work.
Senator Reid was only able to garner 47 votes of the 60 votes needed to 'pay off' the doctors in te Senate.
All Republicans voted 'Nay'.
Democrats Voting 'Nay' include:
Sen. Bayh D-IN
Sen. Byrd D-WV
Sen. Conrad D-ND
Sen. Dorgan D-ND
Sen. Feingold D-WI
Sen. Kohl D-WI
Sen. McCaskill D-MO
Sen. Nelson D-FL
Sen. Tester D-MT
Sen. Warner D-VA
Sen. Webb D-VA
Sen. Wyden D-OR
And independent Sen. Lieberman I-CT.
Why not write a letter and thank them for standing for honesty and fiscal responsibility?

1984

A novel by George Orwell, where things didn't mean what they said--in order for the totalitarian government to control the media.
Example of things not meaning what they say:
The Respect for Marriage Act HR 3567
--where any committed relationship between 2 people would be defined as marriage (nullifying states' rights in this matter)
The Employees Free Choice Act HR 800
--where the secret ballot is taken away from union workers. Some free choice here!
The Internet Freedom Preservation Act
--which results in much more control of the internet by the FCC
The America Clean Energy and Security Act (otherwise known as cap-&-tax, errr, -trade)
--which would vastly increase energy costs through taxation of current, proven sources of energy without any benefit to the environment. There doesn't seem to be any relationship to our country's security, except maybe, since we will be so poor we can't afford electricity, our enemies won't be able to see us (remember blackouts in WWII?)

This is Crazy

Afghanistan, that is...

The Commander-in-Chief has had almost 60 days since the general that he placed over Afghanistan, General McChrystal, has asked for 40,000 more troops.
The general that Mr. Obama has only talked to twice thus far.
President Obama states that he needs more time to decide on his strategy, although he enunciated a strategy back in March (see previous entry: http://politicopolitico.blogspot.com/2009/09/white-house-on-afghanistan-with-my-take.html )
The comment from Secretary of Defense Gates?
"It's just a matter now of getting the time with the president when we can sort through these options and then tee them up for him to make a decision," Gates said, adding that several important folks were traveling abroad at the moment and needed to get back to Washington, D.C.
Umm........where has everyone been these last 60 days?
Don't our men and women in uniform deserve just a tad more consideration that this?

Nasty Politics

I don't usually blog about this sort of stuff, but all this micro-managing by the Obama Administration, extending even now to the freedom of the press, is just a tad over-the-top.
President Obama seems to be working on a plan to discredit all his opponents, even to the point of villifying those who disagree with him.
The bottom line: the White House seems to be working hard to "spin" the news, all to their favor. DON"T BE TAKEN IN--read widely and make up your own mind!
Must reads:

And What's New on Iran?

Recently, Iran was caught...well...lying about having a nuclear site.
Secretary of State Clinton recently went to Russia to appeal for sanctions to curb Iran's nuclear ambitions.
Unfortunately, Clinton was told "no way". Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov stated, "We are convinced that threats, sanctions, and threats of pressure in the present situation are counter-productive."
Now Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin has added his "No" to sanctions on Iran.
Many speculate that the Obama Administration decided to forgo the Czech/Polish missile defense system as an enticement for Russia to side with the United States against Iran. If this is so, it didn't work out as planned!
China has added its own "No" to sanctions in the last few days.
The recent talks in Geneva with the UN Security Council didn't get too far, not surprising after Iran stated that it didn't intend to talk about its nuclear program and defended its nuclear "rights".
http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2008/jul/21/iran.nuclear
Others feel that the Geneva talks added legitimacy to to Iran's President Ahmadinejad, who reputedly stole the elections and then (for real) shot his own people who protested the voting results.
All in all, I'd say Iran--1, United States--0.

Results of the Economic Stimulus Spending

Let's see how well the Stimulus Spending is working!

Right about 16 billion dollars has been awarded to contractors to create new jobs.
The federal government states that right at 30,000 jobs have been created/saved. From the government website:
Well, quickly doing a bit of math---
Using the 16 billion dollar figure, that's $533,000 Per Job!
Closer to home (for me, the DFW area), let's look at the results:
A local peanut butter factory received $890,000 dollars.
Jobs created/saved? Eight.
But it is creamy peanut butter, if that helps.
Lockheed-Martin got over 4 and a half million dollars.
Jobs created? 2.2 (I'm not sure how you get 0.2 of a job, but that's what is reported).
Another industry received over 434,000 dollars.
Jobs created? Zero--nothing.
Just to let you know how your tax dollars are working!!!!
Or not.
P.S. Don't forget Vice-President Biden's past assurances of 500,000 or 750,000 or 1 million jobs created/saved. Maybe some got lost somewhere?

Democrats Prepare to Push Health Care Through (dare I say it) Unconstitutionally

Is this our Constitution?
Democrats are laying the groundwork to push health care reform through by a process called "reconciliation". From Fox News: "A key House committee on Thursday quietly altered its health care legislation in a way that could allow the Senate to mow over Republican opposition to Democratic reforms by exploiting a budgetary loophole."

This has been called the "nuclear option", since it allows a bill to be passed with only a simple majority in the Senate--51 votes instead of the 60 votes usually needed to pass legislation.
And reconciliation forbids filibuster.

Representative Rangel (D-NY) has stated that reconciliation is only a possibility--just in case-so Democrats can "simply preserve the option of advancing health reform legislation." Hmmm.....then WHY make these manuevers?!?
"Reconciliation" is supposed to be used for budgetary standstills.
It's not to be used instead of the normal legislative process.

Behind Closed Doors

That's how the health care reform bill is being done by our Senate and Representative Democrat, and White House leadership, is being done.
Not by We, The People, and our normal, republican processes.
Not "transparently".
Not with any input by Republicans.
It's Reid, Dodd, Baucus plus White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel, HHS Secretary Sebelius, and OMB Director Peter Orzag, to name a few of those meeting behind closed doors.
Just to keep you up with what's going on.

And More Talk of Taxes

Henry Aaron and Isabel Sawhill, senior fellows in economic studies at the Brookings Institution, report that increases in federal taxes will now be necessary to fund the health care initiative. They propose a value-added tax (VAT) on all goods and services. They seem to feel that this will be a tax on the rich and middle-class.
Shades of Pelosi.
And, unfortunately, VATs affect the poor, who do have a lot of extra income, the most.
And taxes are BAD for the economy--not good, as Aaron and Sawhill assert.

More on the Price of Health Care (Hint: It Will Increase)

The health insurance industry came out today with estimates of the cost of the current health care reform plans.
These estimates were made by the accounting firm, PricewaterhouseCoopers.
"The report says that the cost of the average family coverage, now $12,300, will rise to $18,400 in 2016 under current law and to $21,300 if the Senate bill is adopted."
Similarly, individual plans will cost more.
This report also points out that new taxes and fees on insurance companies will result in higher premiums for us.
And the billions and billions of dollars cut from Medicare, as proposed in the Baucus bill, would increase out-of-pocket costs to seniors.

Yea for We, the People: Even More Taxes!

Just to remind you, the Cap and Trade is still in the works.
The other moniker for this bill is "Cap and Tax".
Cap and Trade, remember, will tax businesses on their "carbon output". Estimates by the Heritage Foundation show loss of over 2 million jobs by 2035 and, for individual households, an increase in electricity costs of 90% and gasoline costs of 58%. Utility costs are estimated to increase by $829 a year.
"As Obama explained in January 2008 during an interview with the editorial board of the San Francisco Chronicle, 'Under my plan of a cap and trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket.' "
The gain for all this expense?
Experts agree that the temperature will decrease by 0.2 degrees by 2100.
And all this in face of many scientists agreeing that the earth is in a global cooling phase.

House Speaker Pelosi--More Taxes

A new value-added tax (VAT) is "on the table" to help the U.S. address its fiscal liabilities, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said Monday night.
"Of course, we want to take down the healthcare cost, that's one part of it," the Speaker added.
Today, several economists are stating that the economy is turning around--the recession has ended, according to several experts-- http://www.rte.ie/business/2009/1012/usa.html . This evaluation despite the rising unemployment rate and fewer jobs available. Increases in salaries and benefits was the least amount since the Bureau of Labor Statistics began following this in 1975. Productivity did increase, presumably from each worker doing more work. See the government figures at http://www.bls.gov/eag/eag.us.htm

And, of course, economies are not stimulated by tax increases; economies are harmed and stifled by taxes. The best way, Mrs. Pelosi, to help our economy is to lower taxes.

Playing Politics with Afghanistan?

President Obama has now made a distinction between al-Qaeda and the Taliban.

The Taliban is okay--and al-Qaeda is not okay.
In March, President Obama stated, "al Qaeda is actively planning attacks on the United States homeland from its safe haven in Pakistan. And if the Afghan government falls to the Taliban — or allows al Qaeda to go unchallenged — that country will again be a base for terrorists who want to kill as many of our people as they possibly can.”
Now, in contrast, the Taliban has "a role...in Afghanistan's future," says Mr. Obama.
According to administration officials, this may mean giving parts of Afghanistan up to Taliban control, or letting Taliban have a role in the central government.
This, despite the recent terrorist activities of the Taliban, which takes responsibility for the bombing of the Indian Embassy in the Afghan capital of Kabul, killing 17 and wounding 76.
And the known relationship between al-Qaeda and the Taliban.
From Fox News, (Secretary of State) "Clinton believes the Taliban and Al Qaeda are both a threat and the U.S. is fighting the whole idea of killing in the name of religious extremism.”
What are General McChrystal's plans for Afghanistan? What is the best strategy for America's security? Is letting terrorists take over Afghanistan the soundest goal--or is it just expedient because fellow Democrats are opposed to more troops?
I'm not sure--but I'm pretty sure that getting in bed with the Taliban is not the best way to ensure our safety.

More on Health Care

There's some things that you really need to know about the recent rumblings on the health care proposals:
1. The CBO analysis is totally preliminary--
based on the "rough draft" (my words, but it's basically correct) of the Baucus bill. The actual legislative bill has not been written. (This is why it's being called a Vapor Bill.) And, the Congressional Budget Office (a non-partisan body that tallies up the cost of legislation), because the bill is not yet really written, is forced to "guestimate" on future Congressional actions which really puts their figures in doubt.

2. What we don't pay up front, we'll pay in increased costs elsewhere.
Americans will have mandated health care costs, out-of-pocket payments for health insurance, period. Or you'll be fined. Some estimates contend that individual policies could increase by up to $8000 while family policies could skyrocket by $20,000.
And this bill will tax all medical implements, from wheelchairs to pacemakers to hearing aids. Of course, those costs will have to be passed on to the consumer. Companies have payrolls to meet! And these are NOT luxury items. http://blog.heritage.org/2009/10/09/middle-class-pays-more-under-baucus/#more-16723
Other increased costs to us, the consumers, will come from taxes on health insurance policies (which will passed to us, again!) and taxes on employers who don't meet the government rules on health coverage--which will result in fewer jobs and poorer pay!

3. This bill will impact Medicare:
by getting rid of, or greatly limiting, Medicare Advantage, and by billions of dollars in payment cuts to health care providers.
Which will make it very difficult for our seniors to find a doctor.

4. This bill will still leave, by its estimates, 26 million Americans uninsured.

5. This bill will disallow Health Savings Accounts, forcing those who have this type of coverage into other insurance plans.

6. The federal government will, in effect, take over health insurance. Maybe not explicitly, by running a government insurance program, but by controlling what insurance policies will or will not contain and by putting our health care under a "Commissioner" who will not answer to either Congress or the courts.

7. Some sources, including Heritage.org, feel that the Democrats will force this bill through Congress without going through the usual, and what-the-constitution-expects, legislative mechanisms.
In effect, we the people could have no say over what is in this bill or the passage (or non-passage) of it. The health care bill may be run through Congress and to the President with NO public debate. http://www.humanevents.com/article.php?id=33891 Also see: http://www.cnsnews.com/news/article/55081 for more specifics on these bait-and-switch tactics.
This isn't so far-fetched, seeing as how no one has actually seen the bill, including President Obama.

For a good summary, see:

What to do?
Write your Congress folks today!
Write Blue-Dog Democrats!
Write the President!

Update on the Doctors at the White House, and more....

Yes, those doctors supporting President Obama's health care proposals Monday, all dressed in white doctor coats on the White House lawn.
These doctors seem to be part of a group "Doctors For America" and/or Mr. Obama's campaigning group, "Organizing for America". DFA is called a "grass-roots" (as in astroturf) group, but in actuality is a group organized by Senator Max Baucus (D-Montana) and the decidedly left leaning Center for American Progress.
http://michellemalkin.com/2009/10/07/spin-doctors-for-obamacare/
And just in case you wanted to know, President Obama has NOT read all the health care bill put forth by Senator Baucus, according to White House spokesman Gibbs. http://www.cnsnews.com/news/article/55038
And neither will you get to read the bill--nor will your lawmakers, just for the record--at least not before the vote. Democrats and Senator "Baucus declined to commit to giving lawmakers a full 72 hours to review the final version of the bill."
The cost of the Baucus bill? Close to 900 billion dollars (a little less than first expected).
The CBO states the Baucus bill will actually save a little bit after about 10 years, maybe 81 billion--of the expected 16 trillion dollar deficit projected.
The insured? About half of the the currently uninsured population.
Including illegal aliens.

Call today!

President Obama continues to campaign for health care.
Yesterday, he invited doctors and gave out white coats in order to push health care reform.
Today is Call Your Congress Day and "tell them get your hands off my health-care". See

Why do I keep up this blog? "Would you have believed?..."

"Who would have believed that within the first seven months of the new administration, 90% of all mortgages in the United States would be backed by the federal government", or that the feds would manage a "hostile takeover of General Motors and Chrysler, the sacking of their respective CEO's, replacing them with political appointees, and then heartlessly closing hundreds of profitable dealerships across the country", or that the "budget deficit for Barack Obama's first fiscal year would total $1.6 trillion dollars, and in ten years the predicted national debt would surge to $16 trillion"??
Or that "the Lockerbie murderer, convicted of killing 270 passengers aboard Pan Am flight 103, would be freed from prison, and the response from America's president would simply be, 'we thought it was a mistake' "?
Or that "President Obama's first first phone call to a world leader was to a former pillar of the Palestinian Liberation [terrorist] Organization, Mahmoud Abbas"?
Or that President Obama sent back to Great Britain a bush of Winston Churchhill that was given to President Bush?
Or that "on the night of his inauguration our new Commander in Chief became the only President to blow off the Salute to Heroes Inaugural Ball, sponsored by the American Legion."??
Instead, he partied with Hollywood types.
Or that he can't find time to speak with General McChrystal? Or that he continues to lie about health care? Or, or, or.....?

Uh-Oh Again: Medicare Cuts

The chief of Congressional Budget Office (remember, it's set up to be non-partisan) contradicted the White House's statement that health care reform would not cut Medicare.
President Obama plans will cut Medicare Advantage programs, as part of its half-a-trillion cuts in the overall Medicare program.
"Nobody is talking about cutting Medicare benefits," Obama said in July.
Perhaps he should read the bills being proposed in Congress. Unlike Senator Carper.

President Obama--What did he do last week?

Here's a run-down of the last week for President Obama:
Monday, September 28th--President Obama has meetings with advisors in the morning
Tuesday, September 29th--Morning briefings, then meetings with NATO Secretary General and with Secretary of Defense Gibbs
Wednesday, September 30th--Morning briefings, then tour of NIH laboratory, followed by meeting with security advisors on Afghanistan.
Thursday, October 1st--Morning briefings, then speaks at National Democratic Governors Assocition fundraiser. Afternoon--Meetings (it looks like these were 30 minutes each) with Secretary of State Clinton and Treasury Secretary Geithner. Also a speech on the talks with Iran. Off to Copenhagen in the evening.
Friday, October 2nd--In Copenhagen with Mrs. Obama, speaks to IOC and attends receptions. A 25 minute face-to-face meeting with General McChrystal.

Did we, the people, vote for this guy?

Folks, time to wake up and smell the coffee.
Please don't vote for people who have less-than-sterling IQ's, or who are lazy, or who DON'T REPRESENT YOU!
Case in point:
Senator Carper (D-Del) who says he won't be reading the health care bill.
“I don’t expect to actually read the legislative language because reading the legislative language is among the more confusing things I’ve ever read in my life,” Mr. Carper stated, speaking of the legal phrasing of the bill.
He goes on to say, “So the idea of reading the plain English version: Yeah, I’ll probably do that.”
Probably??

Silly Reasons

In short, President Obama did not want to ruin his moment at chairing the United Nations Security Council by announcing the perfidy of Iran in having a secret nuclear site. He wanted to make a case for nuclear disarmament. So Mr. Obama held off on the announcement about Iran-the Administration "didn't want to 'spoil the image of success' for Mr. Obama's debut at the U.N."

Making the French president hoppin' mad.
