The Senate Democrats are touting a "new" compromise on health care reform.
The final details aren't yet known--though in my opinion, we should know all about the proposals (these folks are our representatives, don't forget!)--but the gist is as follows:
The Office of Personnel Management, which is controlled by TAADAA!!!! the President will contract with the largest of the private insurers--they won't be "private" or "for-profit" anymore--and essentially control a nationwide insurance scheme that, if I may emphasize this, WILL BE CONTROLLED by the President.
And, as another part of this "compromise", all adults from age 55 up will be enrolled under Medicare (which, at the same time, will be cut by one-half trillion dollars. That should ensure plenty of money for absolutely top-notch medical care for all these people, don't you think?). According to Public Option proponent Representative Weiner (D-New York), “Expanding Medicare is an unvarnished, complete victory for people like me. It’s the mother of all public options.”
And the Washington Post, “ The irony of this late breaking Medicare proposal is that it could be a bigger step toward a single payer system than the milquetoast public option plans rejected by Senate moderates as too disruptive of the private market.”
